Sacramento Black Caucus honors five students

The Sacramento Area Black Caucus will honor five high school and college students during its annual "Scholarship and Recognition Dinner" at 6 p.m. Saturday at Touch A' Class Restaurant, 4217 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento.
Each of the students will receive a $500 scholarship.
The scholarship winners are Chrystanya Morgan, Sacramento State; Jessica Reede, Monterey Trail High School; Rahotep Alkebulan, Jesuit High School; Patrice Brazier, Sacramento State; and Marissa Thomas, San Diego State.
The scholarships are awarded in memory of Rowenwald Robertson, a community activist and City Council


St. Ignatius wins statewide Catholic school Academic Decathlon

St. Ignatius Parish School on Arden Way earned first place among California Catholic schools in the diocese Academic Decathlon.
St. Ignatius, a kindergarten through eighth-grade school, defeated 23 local elementary schools in the Diocese of Sacramento Academic Decathlon to win a bid to the state competition.
Students were quizzed over the weekend about religion, social studies, math, current events, art and more in the competition, which was hosted by the Diocese of San Bernardino. The competition is modeled after the Science Olympiad and High School Academic Decathlon.
