Capitol Alert: CHP begins arresting protestors at Capitol

The California Highway Patrol has begun arresting protesters at the Capitol, after warning about 65 to leave the building after its 6 p.m. closing.

The crowd chanted "shame on you" as protesters were led off one by one to an elevator. The CHP used plastic wrist ties to bind the protesters

Mike Parker, a community college teacher who expected to be arrested, said the protest is to provide a "moral witness...What's happening in this society is totally out of kilter," he said.

Superintendent threatens principal for offering teacher tenure

Absurd? Ridiculous? Yes. But true.

The story that follows is from a NYC teacher, third year, in a middle school in a NYC district. Her name and school are not available yet, but will be, soon.

She saw the story I wrote last week, about my friend up for tenure instead having his probation extended, about all the probationers in his school being extended, en masse, without even looking at them.

And she added her own story. Read it:

About Me:
-I have been teaching for more than eight years – all but the last three were in the State of Texas.
-I currently teach at a school that received an A.
-The TDI from my first year in the DOE called me a “Low Performing” teacher – I had 67 students, zero failed,

What I Would Say To A Group of Promising Educators of Color

Young KRS-One

I had the privilege last Friday of attending Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers breakfast in Tarrytown, NY with 5-600 people, many of which were part of this illustrious program. Dr. Bettye Perkins founded this organization to encourage more teachers of color to enter the profession through an 8-year scholarship. They get mentorship through high school and half to full paid tuition, and all they have to do is get their certification to become teachers. This is an organization I wish existed when I first came into my own, but I’m excited that
