University of Washington Provost Phyllis Wise said Wednesday she won't be a candidate to replace UW President Mark Emmert, who is leaving to take the top job with the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

University of Washington Provost Phyllis Wise said Wednesday she won't be a candidate to replace UW President Mark Emmert, who is leaving to take the top job with the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
However, Wise, the No. 2 administration under Emmert at the university, said she would be "ready to serve" if asked by the Board of Regents to be interim president while the Regents search for Emmert's permanent replacement.
