Russian-based charter school seeks to open in Hillsboro

HILLSBORO -- A charter school specializing in European and Russian styles of education is seeking to open in the Hillsboro School District.During a public hearing Tuesday night, leaders of the Academy for International Achievement described their plans to the Hillsboro School Board for a charter school that would target students who struggle with English.
But the school would be "open to all students who desire a rigorous, European-style education focused on building international understanding and tolerance," according to the school's application.
Enrollment would be capped at 190 students in kindergarten through grade 12.
The Academy plans to use curriculum from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, which would be translated into English in core subjects.
