More on Honest Endorsements

I hate to repeat the obvious, but I heart Susan Ohanian. Check out this link from Arne Duncan's FOIA-obtained calendar, with a weird redaction of someone's name. Someone from the Gates Foundation. I'm  sure national security came into play.  Russo has the whole calendar. Eli Broad was an early meeting, naturally.

Duncan, Obama; Obama, Duncan. I feel like I voted for the public option in 2008 and got Michelle Rhee and Rahm Emanuel instead. It's so strange to be be a Kool-Aid-abstaining educator these days; you wind up in alliances you never would have predicted.

For example, a while ago, I voted for Kelly Cassidy, who's my incumbent representative, running against a charters-are-superior challenger. However, if I'd seen this tweet on my way to the polls, I probably would have

Yet another stupid, yet potentially lethal, "no you do it" challenge is racing around the country.  It's called theCinnamon Challenge and basically, it's swallowing a teaspoon of it without water.  (I recall this as trying to swallow a half-cup of flour in my day.)

Now you think, "Cinnamon - how bad can it be?"  The issue is that cinnamon is a minor caustic that can burn mouth tissue and, worse, can cause breathing difficulties.  If a child has respiratory issues such as asthma, it could be life-threatening (as has been the issue in several cases throughout the country where children had to be put on ventilators.

It seems like you wouldn't have to tell a kid not to do this but I can see how they think cinnamon is sweet and

Save money by eliminating useless testing

Sent to the Los Angeles Times, March 17, 2012

State Supt. Torlakson urges us to find the “will and the resources to end the financial emergency facing our public schools,” and prevent California from laying off 20,000 teachers. How about eliminating the High School Exit Exam? (“About 19,500 public school teachers in state get pink slips,” March 16).

The most recent review of research on exit exams, done by researchers at the University of Texas, concluded that high school exit exams do not lead to more college attendance, increased student learning or higher
