The World’s Greatest Teacher

I’m going to take a short break from my activism to honor the world’s best teacher. Seriously! THE best teacher. In. The. World.
When I was 18, I went to a huge graduation commencement ceremony at New Mexico State University’s Pan American Arena to watch the graduating class of 1993 (or was is 1992? I’m starting to get old). I sat too far away to make out the faces under the mortar boards, but I do remember seeing a group of four grads with their mortars cleverly spelling out, “Will Teach 4 Food.” I sat through the entire ceremony just to hear one name: Marsha Nielsen.
She was one of the grads with the aforementioned marked mortars, although I can’t remember which one. I do remember clapping my hands hard enough to hurt and yelling at the top of my lungs’ capacity when they called her name.
