One correction. NYC DOE is not paying inBloom $50 million; they are not paying them anything at this point. But starting in 2015, inBloom has said that they will start charging states and districts $2-$5 per student for the use of their "services"; and they are exploring the option of charging vendors for access to this highly confidential, personalized student information as well.
