Eugene V. Debs: Statement September 18, 1918

Prompted by Deborah Meier’s “Considering How to Use Competition and Conflict” at Bridging Differences(Education Week) and Barbara Madeloni’s brilliant “The emotional violence of the accountability regime: part two”here @ the chalk face, as well as my own blog posting, “Lessons from the Zombie Apocalypse,” I am reposting “Statement September 18, 1918″ from Eugene V. Debs, who should serve in this country as a beacon for speaking and acting truth to power.

For opposing World War I, and speaking to as well as acting upon his convictions, Eugene V. Debs was imprisoned.
Below are his words addressing his conviction for sedition. While some of the details remain in the past, the
