DMEA Standing for Something Part 3 - Quality Evaluation and Support
The evaluation of education professionals is in the spotlight around the country as many states and districts make changes in their systems. These changes are being made by "reformers" who state that they want to ensure a quality teacher for every child. We at DMEA agree that every child deserves a quality teacher and that how you get there is to improve an evaluation system that all too often is one of "drive by" evaluations done by rushed administrators who may not be fully prepared to provide quality feedback. Where we diverge from the current "reform" crowd is in what a new and improved evaluation system should look like.
The hallmarks of a quality evaluation system should be (1) fairness, (2) quality feedback, (3) support for improvement, and (4) promoting best practices.
