EDUCATION: Funding can vary widely among local schools

Though Carlsbad is a pretty wealthy area, its school district receives and spends the least amount of money per student than all other districts in North County.
It's an example of erratic education funding that causes per-pupil revenue and spending to vary substantially across the region. Others local districts take in and spend significantly more than the roughly $7,000 per student that Carlsbad Unified spends, according to budgets adopted recently.
For example, Fallbrook's high school district spends more than $9,200 per student; Escondido's
