REALTeachers for SCTA

Most of you know the REAL Teachers candidates from when they successfully rallied the community to oppose the Teach for America program. Others may know of our involvement in the fight against Charter School movement; this is a battle we are still waging. Tari, Nichole, Lori, Ben, Alice, Owen, Joe and Carlos have proven their leadership repeatedly, picketing anti teacher events, rallying at the Capitol, lobbying the legislature and urging our own union to action. REAL Teachers are active and skilled. We are the people you regularly see advocating at meetings for you and the children we serve. Every member of our team will bring a unique skill set to the union.

At the top of our ticket is the current SCTA vice-president,Carlos Rico. Carlos is a leading voice in this union and is recognized locally and statewide as a skillful and effective education advocate.
Joe Barnett’s years as a legislative staff director and as a state board member in Hawaii make him an effective speaker for our members.
Owen Jackman is known by every elected leader in the area.
Ben Gravitz is a proven advocate at the site level on behalf of the contract.
Alice Mercer is the master of electronic communication.
Tari Green has been active on numerous committees at the state and local level.
Nichole DeVore is active at the national level of NEA.
Lori Jablonski has a vast knowledge of the local community.
