School libraries are critical to every child's education and career—with nearly 31 million elementary, middle, and high school students relying on school library services each week. This April, join whole child partner American Association of School LibrariansSchool Library Month. The month-long celebration will showcase the vital role and resources school libraries provide to students to support their education and career endeavors. This year's theme, "communities matter @ your library," shows how libraries can help students, individuals, and families discover new and exciting things through library collections, digital resources, and more.
All month long, AASL will be offering free event guides and resources that school librarians and communities can use to celebrate. In addition, take a look at the AASL whole child resources, as well as the American Library Association's National Library Week events, from April 14–20, 2013, including:
- April: School Library Month
- Monday, April 15: The 2013 State of America's Libraries Report is released
- Tuesday, April 16: National Library Workers Day
- Wednesday, April 17: National Bookmobile Day
- Thursday, April 18: Celebrate Teen Literature Day
