EARLIER SCHOOL AGE ? NOT IN ILLINOIS

Most states have a starting compulsory attendance age for students that is either at the age of 5 or 6. The compulsory age to start school in Illinois has always been 7 years old. Many people have been urging legislators to lower the compulsory age here in Illinois.  After weeks of studying the proposal, it looks like the idea is going nowhere.
Illinois doesn’t have the money to spend on what it would take to enforce the lower compulsory age. We will just have to be one of the only states that allows students to delay their entry into school until age 7, and sometimes that means starting school in the second grade.
