Parents urge state Education chief to visit charter school in Pleasantville ordered to close

Parents of students at the PleasanTech Charter School want acting Education Commissioner Chris Cerf to visit the school to see why it should be allowed to stay open.
"We want him to visually see our children in action," Atlantic City resident Raina Williams said. "Every child learns differently. They all don't do well on the state tests. But I'm from Atlantic City, and the schools there aren't doing all that well, either."
A group of about 20 parents met Friday to launch a last-ditch effort to save the school. The school's charter was not renewed by the state Department of Education and administrators were told it must close at the end of the school year in June.
A DOE spokesman said Friday that the department had conducted an on-site review of the school and Cerf personally met with parents, students and teachers April 3, but as stated in an April 26 letter to board Chairman Keith Mills, he has reaffirmed his decision not to
