The U.S. Department of Justice this morning said it is neither hosting nor will it send a representative to a meeting planned for 6:30 p.m. tonight at Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center where the issue of the hiring and firing of minority teachers in far northeast Denver will be discussed.
Late last week, e-mail messages spread inviting current and former Denver Public Schools employees to discuss "racial bias concerns about DPS delivery of educational services" at the meeting.
One of the e-mail messages, from retired teacher and former chairwoman of the Black Caucus for the Denver Classroom Teachers Association Annette Sills-Brown, said the meeting was organized by retired DPS teacher Cozette Hammock-West.
In the message, Sills-Brown said Hammock-West was "asked by a DOJ attorney to schedule a meeting on Monday, March 19th so that attorney and one other colleague can hear from current and former DPS persons with racial bias concerns about DPS delivery of
