KEARNY — woman who identified herself as a second-grade teacher on maternity leave today implored Gov. Chris Christie and the state’s largest teachers union, of which she is a member, to “find a way to work together.”
“I’m scared to death to talk to you,” she said at the first town hall since Christie called a Navy SEAL and former Democratic Assembly candidate an “idiot” at a town hall in Roebling.
“Why?” Christie asked the teacher.
“Because you scare me,” she said, prompting laughter from the Kearny crowd.
“I’m a teacher who loves her job and I love my kids,” she continued, “I just wish our dialogue could become a dialogue, an open an honest exchange that doesn’t resort to name-calling and fear.”
Gov. Chris Christie's Roebling-Florence Town Hall - full videoFull uncut video clip of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie addressing former Navy SEAL and Iraq veteran Bill Brown during a town hall in Roebling, NJ on March 8, 2012. Brown, a law student at Rutgers University in Camden questions Christie about the planned merger of the school with Rowan University then interrupts the governor's reply. The governor reprimands him, calling him an "idiot" as Brown is thrown out of the hall. While the full audio of Brown's half of the exchange is not captured by the audience mic (which does not seem to be working properly) the full clip does give a better idea of exactly what happened.Watch video The woman entered the gymnasium at the Archdiocesan Youth Retreat Center
