CHICAGO LOCAL SCHOOL COUNCILS – APATHY REIGNS
Chicago schools need 4,740 parents and community members to step up and fill vacant seats on many of its local school councils. Created by the Illinois General Assembly in 1988, local school councils have the power to decide how school funds are allocated and also can hire and fire principals. CPS leaders have extended the deadline for applicants because only 2,060 people had signed up to seek 6,800 seats by the deadline.

There are very few successful business people or community leaders available to step up and help the schools. Most Chicago Public School teachers learn very quickly that they can’t expect anyone to help them with their students.
