Nearly 700 teachers in the Elk Grove Unified School District called in sick Friday, leading many to ask if a "sick out" was happening.

"We heard rumors last week that there may be a sick out,” said Elizabeth Graswich, with the EGUSD. A total of 683 of the district's teachers called in.

No classes were canceled.


A reliable source tells FOX40 a sick out was scheduled for Friday, despite the teachers’ union saying that they "do not condone this type of job action."

The source, who wishes to remain anonymous, told FOX40 that the teachers’ number one concern is the students.

"I think if you ask any student or any teacher, they would say the same thing,” the source said. “One of the reasons we're trying to do this for the students. The people we work with are
