As the LA Weekly reported, the program was granted a temporary reprieve after testimony from a wide range of individuals who said adult education classes were essential to their becoming successful members of the community. The list included an Iraq War veteran, a woman working as a civil engineer who is headed to a doctoral program at UCLA, and a Nigerian immigrant who now works as an adjunct professor in the state
