U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski will participate Wednesday in the first national Digital Learning Day, a nationwide celebration of innovative teaching and learning through digital media and technology.

Originating from The Newseum in Washington, Secretary Duncan and Chairman Genachowski will open a national town hall webcast to an audience of more than 20,000 students and teachers online at schools across the country.

The day’s activities are aimed at profiling great teachers who effectively use technology to support student learning and focus on improving access and equity for all students.

On hand with Duncan and Genachowski will be former West Virginia Gov. Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education whose organization is designing and hosting the event. Washington’s WJLA-TV anchor Leon Harris will moderate.
