CELDT and Title III Accountability June Notes
June 2011 Edition of the California English Language Development Test (CELDT) and Title III Accountability Program Notes.Release of CELDT 2010–11 Annual Assessment Summary Results
On May 10, 2011, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson, released the annual assessment (AA) summary results for the 2010–11 Edition of the CELDT. AA summary results are available at the state, county, district, and school levels on the California Department of Education (CDE) DataQuest Web site. The comprehensive results for 2010–11, including initial assessments conducted through June 30, 2011, will be available in November 2011.
The CELDT AA data were collected during the AA window from July 1, 2010 through October 31, 2010. During this window, the CELDT was administered to English learners (ELs) in kindergarten through grade twelve, who had not been previously identified or reclassified as fluent English proficient.
The results for students assessed during the AA window are used to calculate the annual measurable achievement objectives (AMAOs) 1 and 2 required by Title III of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
The assistance packet, Explaining and Using 2010–11 Summary Results, was posted in May 2011 on the CDE CELDT Resources Web page. This document provides information and materials to assist local educational agencies (LEAs) in understanding and communicating summary results of the annual administration of the CELDT to staff, parents and guardians, and the public.
Scoring Training of Trainers Workshops
All test examiners must be trained to administer and score the CELDT. Workshops for the 2011–12 Edition of the CELDT are provided to individuals who will train test examiners and who may administer the test in their respective county, district, or independently-testing charter schools.
Educational Data Systems conducted 13 Scoring Training of Trainers (STOT) workshops throughout the state this spring. Two additional workshops will be provided for the 2011–12 Edition: August 23, 2011 in Downey, and August 30, 2011 in Sacramento.
