I'm going to go ahead and pay the $105 for a designation of agent. Not that I plan to use material from the Denver or Las Vegas newspapers, but you never know when this bottom-feeding attorney behavior is going to spread like a cancer around the country. I've tried to start working within copyright laws, but let's face it-- this blog is chock full of borrowed stuff.

If you're not aware of the copyright trolling phenomenon, read all about it. In a nutshell, there's a new legal specialty being practiced by one firm at the moment. They partner up with an online newspaper (in this case, the Las Vegas Review-Journal and theDenver Post, and then they go trolling for bloggers who have used materials that are copyrighted by these papers. Then, if I'm understanding it right, they gain ownership of the copyright and sue the blogger for copyright infringement. The bloggers usually settle rather than win an expensive victory in court.
