Pro-union protesters to target Rhee | Freeman Klopott | DC | Washington Examiner

Pro-union protesters to target Rhee

Parents, teachers and students are coming to Washington on Monday to protest anti-union initiatives favored by former D.C. schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett.

The protest will focus its attention on the American Federation for Children's annual policy conference at the Washington Marriott, which Rhee, Walker and Corbett are scheduled to attend.

AFC backs initiatives by Walker and Corbett designed to reduce the hold of unions on the education systems and bureaucracies of their respective states.

Rhee repeatedly squared off against teachers unions as she pushed for reforms that held teachers accountable for student progress. Some of the results of her approach have been disputed following a recent USA Today article strongly suggesting that answers on student tests had been modified to
