‘No Child Left Behind” is an incredibly potent political slogan. It is short and sweet, and if you don't look into it too closely, NCLB promotes the appealing notion that standardized teaching and testing would provide accountability and revolutionize American public education.

And so NCLB became the law of the land with broad bipartisan support.

But pithy sloganeering often disguises sinister intent.
