The Oakland school district administration has sent notices of possible layoff to 77 of its 2,300 teachers and counselors – in addition to 44 who they say have failed to receive mandated state certification to teach English learners.
Tenured elementary and middle school teachers and counselors, as well as adult school teachers, received these slips. Note: It doesn’t necessarily mean they will be out of a job next fall.
This is the first time since I’ve covered Oakland schools that the district has sent out these “Reduction in Force” slips, a sign of just how tough the going is. OUSD
