"As the debate over charter schools heats up in the city and state, the Department of Education is quietly planning one for Kingsbridge.
The Kingsbridge Innovative Design School (KIDS) is scheduled to start accepting students in a yet-to-be-completed building at 3120 Corlear Ave. next fall, according to The Department of Ed. It’s all been so quiet, even Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, who has been outspoken against charter schools and whose office sits nearby the planned site, was unaware the plan was moving forward.
“What I think is unreasonable is that they decide on location without any discussion with anybody,” said Mr. Dinowitz, when a reporter informed him the plan had been solidified. “The DOE does everything in top secret,” he said."
