Mexican American Studies Day Commemorated Across Texas
Friday, May 1, 2015
Houston, TX (April 13, 2015)- More people in the U.S. than in Mexico celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Yet, most people don't really know what it's about.
That's why Mexican American Studies Day is here to save the day and raise awareness.
Tony Diaz, El Librotraficante, founder of Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writers Having Their Say, said, "If more people took Mexican American Studies courses, they would know that Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexican Independence Day, which some people confuse it for. They would understand the cultural context of May 5. That's the purpose of Mexican American Studies Day-raising awareness about the largest growing demographic in Texas."
