Please check out what the Rhode Island legislature did to their public employee pensions. Among other things, they passed a law that raised retirement ages, suspended all pension increases, and created a new benefit plan that combines traditional pensions with something like a 401(k) account. Rhode Island public sector unions are suing to block the legislature, but the laws have already been passed. Who knows what the courts will decide.
Here in Illinois the door to “pension reform” is going to swing wide open if the Constitutional Amendment regarding public pensions is approved in November. We need to do all we can to defeat that amendment.
