Charters Don't Have to Pay Rent, For Now

A state Supreme Court judge has blocked public school parents and advocacy organizations from obtaining a preliminary injunction that would require New York City to charge charter schools rent for the space they occupy inside of public school buildings.
The ruling by the justice Paul G. Feinman of the state Supreme Court on Dec. 28 said that the parents and organizations had failed to prove that the public schools would lose any substantive benefits if the city continues its policy of giving charter schools rent-free public space.
