Diane Ravitch: Getting Our Schools Back on Track
Thursday, November 17, 2011, 7:30 – 9:00pm
at Town Hall
Despite a decade-long push for aggressive reforms, many American students are graduating from public schools without the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. Maintaining that public education is in peril, former US Assistant Education Secretary Diane Ravitch, author of The Death and Life of the Great American School System, argues against school privatization, cautions about the use of test scores as evaluation tools, warns about turning over control of public education to businessmen, philanthropists, and politicians and offers a road map for getting our schools back on track.
Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life with Elliott Bay Book Company, the Seattle Education Association, and the Washington Education Association. Series media sponsorship provided by PubliCola. Series supported by The Boeing Company Charitable Trust and the RealNetworks Foundation.
Tickets are $5 at Brown Paper Tickets and at the door beginning at 5:30 pm.
