Why You Shouldn’t Be Shocked that Florida Will Seek its Own NCLB Waiver

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida will be among the states seeking to opt out of No Child Left Behind requirements for public schools.
State Department of Education spokeswoman Cheryl Etters said the state will seek a waiver.
President Barack Obama announced the waiver program Friday.
Tom Butler, another department spokesman, said the waiver would “better align state and federal accountability requirements so parents and the public can more easily understand how our schools are doing.”
Florida had its own A-to-F school grading system before the federal law was passed.
