The newest MetLife Survey of the American Teacher was released today, this one focused on the topic of college and career readiness. The survey asked middle and high school teachers, students, parents and business execs about what college and career ready means to them, how important they think it is that all students graduate “college and career ready” and what needs to be done to ensure that they do.

When asked to rate different strategies as “must be done” “should be done” or “devote no additional resources,” some interesting differences emerged between the groups. Parents (75%) and execs (83%) rated highest “giving schools more ability to remove teachers who are not serving students well,” while only 39% of teachers listed this as their highest priority (most said this should be done but as a lower priority). Instead, teachers prioritized “strengthening programs and resources to help diverse learners with the highest needs meet college- and career-ready
