The following article Nobody Like a Brianiac was originally published in the March 14, 2004 L.A. She is also the author of Teacher at Point Blankabout her own experiences and the experience of others as public school teachers - a must read.

The only thing I would add to the excellent essay that follows is the observation that encouraging teachers to continue their own education is probably the best investment with the highest return that a society can make, given the incalculable return it gives to the generations of students one good teacher
