Foes say Seattle's $48 million school levy more about leadership
Seattle Public Schools is asking voters to approve a three-year $48 million levy, but unlike most regular school levies in Seattle, this measure has organized opposition.

Supporters of a $48 million levy for Seattle Public Schools — the district's third levy this year — say the money is badly needed to shore up a district battered by $32 million in cuts from the state over the past two years.
The ballot measure, they say, is an important opportunity to help Seattle students get the education they deserve, despite a sour economy.
"That's the reality of where we are," Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson said. If the levy fails, she said, "the bottom line is that our students will lose."
