It didn't take long for a school tax to be implemented when Corona became a city in 1886. In 1887, a tax of $2 a month on every male of Corona was levied.
Until that time, a few students were taught by one teacher in a room over a store.
The next year, Lincoln School opened at Eighth and Howard streets. By 1890, the school housed 77 students for which three teachers were hired to teach in 1891 in what was then called the Yorba School District.
