The Senate Rules Committee voted to reject one of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s nominees to the state Board of Education Wednesday afternoon in a party-line vote.
Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento), who chairs the Rules committee, said that while Jeannie Oropeza was “qualified to serve,” she had an unsolvable conflict between her board post and her civil service position in the governor’s department of finance.
The full Senate could take up the motion to reject her as early as Thursday.
The Times reported her nomination was in jeopardy on Tuesday.
