The newly revised layoff notices to balance the Elk Grove Unified School District’s 2010-11 budget was revised upward from about 600 to more than 1,125 this week. Notices will be sent out on March 15. This is about 20 percent of the district’s workforce that will receive the “pink slips.”

The school district board will set the first preliminary budget for 2010-11 at their March 15 board meeting.
However as state and federal funding does change or is approved, that will affect the outcome of the number of employees impacted.
Elk Grove school district opens their new school year in mid-August. The likelihood of the state legislature even passing the budget by then is dim, putting another cloud over the situation.
