Rallies planned to protest education cuts in Long Beach

LONG BEACH - Rallies are being planned at Cal State Long Beach and in the Long Beach Unified School District on Thursday to protest state funding cuts to education.
LBUSD parents, students, teachers and community members are scheduled to meet about 4:15 p.m. for a protest rally at the Wilson High School gymnasium, 4400 E. 10th St.
"We must stand together and say to our governor and lawmakers, no more cuts, no more compromises," said Michael Day, president of the Teachers Association of Long Beach, in a statement.
David Sanchez, president of the the California Teachers Association, the state's teachers union, is expected to attend. Grammy Award-winning guitarist Tom Morello, a member of the band Rage Against the Machine, is expected to perform, rally organizers said.
The rally sponsors include TALB, the California Faculty Association at CSULB, and the Long Beach City College Community College Association, according to a statement released by TALB, which is the Long Beach Unified School District's teachers union.
