State: SFUSD can meet financial obligations

Despite its projected $113 million, two-year budget deficit, the San Francisco Unified School District did not make a California Department of Education list released Monday of school districts that may be “unable to meet future financial obligations.”
The state releases the semi-annual list as an “early warning system” on the fiscal health of school districts. While SFUSD has been grappling with its current deficit – mulling cuts to programs, teacher layoffs and the like – it has steered clear from the Department of Education’s “negative” and “qualified” certification categories of the report.
