"A lawmaker with oversight of the MTA predicted today that student fares won’t be cut for hundreds of thousands of students – and that the state and city will be footing the bill.
Assemblyman Richard Brodsky said he agrees that the MTA shouldn’t have to fork over any funds to pay for free and reduced-fare student MetroCards – the transit agency used to be the only in the nation to do so.
'We're confident there's going to be a good outcome,' he said after a committee hearing.
Yet Brodsky, Assemblywoman Joan Millman and Assemblyman Kevin Kavanaugh – who also attended the hearing – were three of the legislators to approve Gov. Paterson’s massive cut to student fares last December, prompting the MTA to cancel the program totally."
