    People who know me know not to bring up the topic of school principals as dinner conversation.

    Better to ask about religion and politics, Cubs or White Sox, Al’s or Mr. Beef.

    I have worked for a dozen principals in my three decades as a teacher. Since I am still an employee for six more months, let’s just leave it at that. I’m not naming names yet.

    I have previously pointed out that these days the career path for many appears to be to teach a couple of years, discover that they don’t really like the classroom, get their Type 75 administrative certification and then become a principal.

    They then no longer just make two dozen kids miserable. They make dozens and dozens of teachers miserable

    TRENTON — Dueling rallies are planned this week by foes and supporters of a New Jersey bill that would use taxpayer money to fund scholarships to send students to private schools.

    The events come as education takes over one of the top spots on Gov. Chris Christie's agenda for the coming weeks.

    The governor supports a law that would use 100 percent tax credits for corporations to pay for scholarships that students in some underperforming school districts could use to pay tuition at private schools or public schools in other communities.

    Opponents, including the ACLU of New Jersey and The Latino Institute, will rally against the bill on

    UC Davis will be shut down today, at least for some.

    A General Strike was planned for Monday, Nov. 28 and will take place throughout today. Many students and faculty members will not attend classes or partake in their normal academic schedule. Most of them will instead participate in a series of Occupy-related workshops that will last from morning to night.
