The failure of the corporate education reforms in New Orleans has been clearly documented. Of all the school communities the Recovery School District has destroyed none has been through more than the John McDonogh School community. I am very sensitive about John McDonogh in that I served as the school’s principal in the early 1990′s. Of all the reasons why the Recovery School District should be shut down the John McDonogh story alone is more than enough proof. The article below outlines The Recovery School District’s epic failure at John McDonogh School.
Before, during and after you read the sad saga, please consider this Statement from the McDonogh Steering Committee
“If we win, our children will win. The school will rejoin its original school district that has an A for its district performance score. The students, their families and community will not have to be concerned with management changing every two years. They will not have to worry that the school will shut down. If we win, we can attend the local school board meeting and not have to travel from New Orleans to Baton Rouge and sit all day to be heard by BESE members who have not experienced a never-ending state takeover of their hometown schools. If we win, the local school board will be responsive and accountable to the community. If we win, we will have board members who we elect – not select.
