Woman fired for being ‘irresistible’ blasts Iowa Supreme Court ruling
A dental assistant who was fired from her job because her boss claimed she was “irresistible” spoke out on Saturday.
Melissa Nelson told CNN she had no idea what changed. She had worked at the position for more than 10 years without incident. Nelson said she “absolutely” wasn’t having an affair with her boss, but did have a personal relationship with him and his family.
The all-male Iowa Supreme Court ruled Friday that the firing of Nelson was lawful and not discriminatory. Her employer, Dr. James Knight, said he “feared he would have an affair with her down the road if he did not fire her,” according to ABC News.
“I really struggle with it,” Nelson said. “I don’t think it is fair. I don’t think it is right.”
Her attorney, Paige Fiedler, explained to CNN that they could not appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court because it was filed under Iowa state law.
