BRIDGEPORT -- A national leader in education reform Sunday offered his support for the city's plan to replace the elected Board of Education with a new board appointed by the mayor.
"This is not about giving up your vote," said Sacramento, Calif., Mayor Kevin Johnson, a former NBA All-Star and chairman of U.S Conference of Mayors Education Task Force.
"Don't feed into this, that this is anti-voting. The mayor is not getting full control of the schools. He's just appointing a board. I would not be here supporting it if I thought it was a bad idea," Johnson said.
