Report: California ranks poorly in education spending

California isn’t ranking well when it comes to spending money on K-12 education, according to an analysis.
The nonpartisan California Budget Project found that California is near the bottom in the country, at No. 46, in terms of per-student spending. And in the last school year state spending was $2,856 less per student than the rest of the country. In 2002, that amount was only $691.
California also ranked No. 50 for student-to-teacher ratio and No. 47 for education spending as part of the state’s economy, according to the report.
“The widening gap between school spending in California and the rest of the nation means we are falling behind in preparing our children for the future,” Jean Ross, executive
