VIDEO: The PEP is a sham- where is the plan?
Last night the Panel for Education Policy (PEP) met to close 13 schools. Thousands of students, parents and teachers from the closing schools and from across the city protested the vote at the meeting. The PEP is majority-controlled by the mayor, with a 100% approval rate on all of his proposals. Knowing that the hearing would not result in a fair decision about the fate of these schools, the people in the auditorium erupted, chanting “Fix our schools NOW” and most people symbolicallyleft the meeting to demonstrate that the Department of Education does not have a plan to fix our struggling schools.
