State of state’s teachers is bleak

An annual report on the status of the teaching profession in California has found severe stresses in the system of hiring and retaining teachers, just at a time when, through budget cuts and layoffs, teachers are being asked to teach larger classes and to do more with less.
“California’s fiscal crisis has so severely damaged the pipeline for recruiting and training new teachers, and for supporting existing teachers, that the quality of the teacher workforce is likely to be at risk for many years to come,” concludes California’s Teaching Force 2010: Key Issues and Trends, published by The Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning
