Mayoral Candidate Miguel Del Valle Applauds President Obama’s Repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

Congratulates local activists who have fought for change in policy

Mayoral candidate and Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle released the following statement today in response to President Obama signing the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell:

I applaud the President and both chambers of Congress for fully repealing the obsolete Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. I congratulate the activists who fought so hard for this victory, including many Chicagoans who were affected by this unjust policy.

This repeal marks a shift in the country’s military culture, where individuals are now able to serve proudly and openly, regardless of their sexual orientation.

This is a major victory on the path toward full equality for LGBTQ Americans.
