City and state officials have reached a deal so Mayor Bloomberg's pick for schools chancellor can take the post, sources said.

Shael Polokaw-Suransky, a former principal who is currently the deputy chancellor for accountability, will become Black's chief academic officer.

The mayor announced Black would replace outgoing Schools Chancellor Joel Klein on Nov. 9.

But since then, the outrage over her lack of education experience has produced an outcry across the city. And earlier this week, an advisory panel to State Commissioner
