I can't be the only to wonder whether some the hullabaloo surrounding the proposed appointment of Cathie Black to head the New York City public schools has something to do with her being, well, you know -- a woman. Sure, there are substantive arguments against her. Yes, it's fun to bloody Mayor Bloomberg's nose once in a while (a couple of years ago it was congestion pricing).
